How to Care for Your 3D-Printed & Diecast Military Display Model

Whether it's an original Slice piece like the Ababeel jet or a sourced diecast aircraft from our aviation catalog, a display model is meant to last for years, not months. Here's how to keep it looking showroom-fresh.

Cleaning

FDM/PLA Prints (like the Ababeel, Patriot system)

• Dust with a soft, dry brush or microfiber cloth weekly
• Avoid water or alcohol-based cleaners on painted or finished surfaces — they can dull the desert-sand finish
• For stubborn dust in panel lines, use a soft-bristled paintbrush

Diecast Models

• Use a dry microfiber cloth for regular dusting
• A very slightly damp cloth is fine for diecast metal bodies, but always dry immediately — moisture around joints and landing gear can cause corrosion over time
• Never submerge or spray cleaner directly onto the model

Storage

• Keep models out of direct sunlight — UV exposure fades paint and desert-sand finishes over time, especially on FDM prints
• Store in a stable, moderate-temperature room; avoid areas near AC vents or windows with big temperature swings (a real factor in Doha's climate)
• Original packaging or a display case is the safest way to store models you're not actively displaying

Handling

• Always support multi-part models (aircraft with separate landing gear, stands, or weapons) from the fuselage, not the smallest attached parts
• If a part detaches (common with fine landing gear or antennas on diecast pieces), don't force it back on — a small dot of clear adhesive is safer than snapping a mounting pin
